PRESIDENT'S PAGE

November 30, 2008
The holiday season is here and the New Year approaches which makes me reflect on the past year with NCWGA. What a successful year we have had! It has been made a special year for me as President of NCWGA by having the chance to work with such a great Board of Directors. Of course, all directors are volunteers but work as if they were employees of a Fortune 500 company. I can’t thank you enough for the hours you have dedicated in 2008 to make my year run so smoothly.
Our state championship was one of the most beautiful and exciting ones we have ever hosted. Meredith Andrews, our tournament chairman, did a superb job. Everything was perfect from beautiful weather the entire four days to an exciting play off finish with Joanna Saleeby being crowned our champion. Thank you, Meredith and Sapona Country Club, for making the North Carolina Women’s Amateur State Championship one of our most memorable.
For the first time, our Net Team Tournament was extended to two days. Little River Golf Club did not let a hurricane put a damper on the event! We were able to play 15 holes the first day and 18 holes the second. It is always great to see the familiar faces from the beginning of this tournament 4 years ago and new faces that vow to come back next year. Thank you to our tournament chairman, Judy Carswell, for having the positive attitude to persevere with the hurricane looming over the beginning of the tournament. Congratulation to the team of Bonnie Montgomery, Barbara Marshall, Sheila Baranello and Paula Gentile for the big win!
Thank you North Carolina SWATCA team for representing our organization at the SWATCA Championship in October. We are very proud of the team, your captain, Donna Noblitt and the North Carolina director to SWATCA, Sue Boynton. We look forward to 2009, as North Carolina is the tournament host.
The Carolinas Golf Foundation and the Carolinas Golf Association has been one of our greatest supporters over many years. Without their generosity financially and physically, we would not be able to host tournaments at such a high caliber and contribute to other golf programs involving junior girls’ golf and amateur women’s golf throughout North Carolina. Thank you, CGF and CGA, for believing in our endeavors.
Our membership deserves the biggest thank you of all. Your continuous support of NCWGA is greatly appreciated. We are always open to suggestions from our members to make women’s amateur golf in North Carolina inviting and successful.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year,
Dotty Lawrence
NCWGA President
